The true reason why I decided to take the Digital Marketing Nanodegree Program

When I started my career, I was fascinated by the digital world and the constant update of its features and the way things get to us. By the time I was focused on the communication study area and not so much on marketing.

My love for digital was always there, even before I noticed it. Every single day, I checked my Facebook and Youtube channels, trying to get more information and observing the way people shared content, changing the way of communicating with “viral campaigns” and creating a new storytelling paradigm.

As you may understand, the times were different from nowadays — all of this was new in 2011/2012 and very fascinating. Facebook was already huge in the USA and other countries, but just started later being popular in Portugal.

The years passed and digital impacted totally the marketing and business area all around the globe. Besides these, the communication market was paralyzed and the opportunities weren’t appealing. Because of that, I started feeling that I need a new thing to refresh my life and career, a new path.

One day, I decided to accept a new job offer as a digital marketing manager. I did it for almost 3 years. I got two times promoted, for being very self-taught and searching for new updates and creative approaches. And believe it or not, I achieved many results.

But I always had the feeling that something was missing:

  • The higher my role position was, the more I felt the gaps compared to my work colleagues.
  • I started feeling insecure when I was talking with people that study digital marketing or did some kind of intensive formation.

And suddenly I was a kitten, not the lion that I thought.

I understood most part of the concepts, I had my strategy templates and creative ideas, but I didn’t have all the digital marketing topics connected. That impacted my work performance and confidence in its quality. And I felt that my knowledge and experience weren’t enough and, the worst, I didn’t know what to do to solve it.

Until one day, I saw a post on LinkedIn from a connection, sharing her experience and certification from the Digital Marketing Nanodegree (DMND) Program. She talked about how complete it was, about the hands-on approach, sharing always real case examples, and emphasizing how it helped her to achieve more results in her work and to fill her gaps.

  • how it helped her to achieve more results in her work and to fill her gaps.

So I decided it was time to kick my insecurities and fears apart, grabbing this amazing opportunity to connect all the dots I already had in my head.

Currently, I’m still doing the DMND course and I’m loving it! I learned so much in less than a month (check the program), and I already applied some of this new knowledge to my current projects.

While I’m searching for new job opportunities and presenting to companies new frameworks and strategies to pitch them, I can say that I’m finally feeling that I’m a lion again!
